Iberia Parish Government will be closed Monday in observance of the Memorial Day holiday.

New Iberia City Hall also will be closed for Memorial Day, according to Mayor Freddie DeCourt.

Memorial Day is one of the 10 federally observed holidays, meaning federal offices will be closing as well Monday.

The holiday was put in place to remember and honor people who have died while serving in the United States Armed Forces.

The holiday is observed on the last Monday of May.

A Memorial Day ceremony will be put on by the Iberia Veterans Association 6 p.m. Monday in Bouligny Plaza.

Residential trash pickup in New Iberia will run one day behind for the holiday week, beginning with the holiday Monday, according to the Republic Services website.

Large container and business small container pickup scheduled for Memorial Day will be one day later, with regular service for large containers the rest of the week and regular service or one day later for business small containers.
