Legendary family singer comes to New Iberia

Allen Frizzell, aka the other brother, was born into a family rich in country music tradition, and reborn into the family of God. Frizzell will give a free concert at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 26 at Cornerstone Cowboy Church, 400 N. Lewis St. in New Iberia.

Since the early 1950s the Frizzell brothers have been prominent on the music charts as artists and songwriters having songs recorded by George Jones, Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, Keith Whitely and even pop artist Jewel.

The eldest brother is legendary Lefty Frizzell, a prolific artist and Songwriter Hall of Fame honoree. Brother David Frizzell is a Grammy nominated, Academy of Country Music and Country Music Association award winner as well as two time song of the year honoree. As of January 2013 the Frizzell brothers Allen, David and Lefty had recorded, written and published hit song’s in every decade since the 1950s — pop, country and Christian country music charts. Allen Frizzell has helped carry the torch for more than 30 years.

Like Lefty and David, Allen is more than a great vocalist, he captures the emotion of a song. He is also a talented musician and an outstanding songwriter earning BMI’s prestigious million-air performance award and BMI’s official recognition of achievement in American Music.

Allen Frizzell started out on his musical journey at the age of nineteen. He started out with brother David singing and playing the guitar and later joined up with big brother Lefty for a brief tour. After touring with both brothers Allen Frizzell soon realized he should be doing his own thing musically. He had become a Christian and felt the call to sing gospel music. He put together a three-piece band but went no where fast. At that point he began following in his older brother’s footsteps singing country music.

With his own band, he began working the West Coast impressing Dottie West who insisted Frizzell move to Nashville and open her show. Touring with some of the biggest names in the business, Nashville has been his home for over 30 years.

Allen Frizzell is celebrating success in a different genre’ of music Christian country music/country gospel achieving several No. 1 songs since releasing his first Christian country CD in 2007, and many awards since.
