- NIPD officer fired after arrest for domestic abuse
A New Iberia Police officer was arrested Monday evening on charges of domestic violence, according to the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office.
LeTroy Johnson, 23, was booked into the Iberia Parish Jail Monday night on one count of domestic abuse strangulation and one count of domestic abuse child endangerment.
New Iberia Police Chief Todd D’Albor said that Johnson, who had completed his POST (Peace Officer Standards and Training) certification and was in the final stages of his field training with the department, was fired Tuesday.
“He was immediately placed on leave pending a review of the facts,” D’Albor said. “After reviewing the details, Mr. Johnson’s employment with the NIPD was terminated.”
Johnson was released Tuesday on $2,500 bond after his first court appearance before 16th Judicial District Court Judge Anthony Thibodeaux.
