St. Mary Parish President David Hanagriff declared voluntary evacuation for residents south of the Intracoastal Waterway beginning at noon Thursday.

Those who should strongly consider evacuating include residents living in areas prone to storm surges, residents with special needs, residents in low-lying areas and residents that have experienced flooding following rain events.

Officials also urged residents to check their emergency supplies, create a protective plan of action and continue to monitor the weather.

In Iberia Parish, Richard recommends residents sign up for the parish’s PINS alert system for updates on the storm as it approaches the area. Users can register here. Users must complete all three pages of the registration process in order to be entered into the system.
