St. Martin Parish correctional officer arrested following allegations of food stamp fraud

- Arrest made for fraud; second suspect sought
ST. MARTINVILLE — The St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office arrested a correctional officer for a potential fraud complaint.
According to a prepared statement, the SMSO received information Tuesday regarding a potential fraud complaint involving a correctional officer.
The employee was immediately placed on administrative leave and a criminal investigation was initiated.
As a result of the investigation, detectives with the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office arrested Kaneshia Francis, 29, St. Martinville, for forging a document and providing false information in an attempt to fraudulently obtain food stamp benefits.
Following her arrest, she was booked into the St. Martin Parish Correctional Center on government benefits fraud.
Subsequent to her arrest, Francis’ employment with the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office was terminated.
