The city of New Iberia will begin storm debris collection in the hardest-hit areas of the city affected by Hurricane Barry.

Residents are asked to separate discarded items in the following categories and place each pile at the curb away from mailboxes, fire hydrants, water meters, electrical lines and other impediments. Placing debris near or on trees, poles, fences, and other structures makes it difficult to remove.

The debris contractor can only pick up debris that can be reached without going onto private property. If you don’t have a sidewalk, ditch, or utility line in front of your house, place debris at the edge of your property before the curb/ditch.

Debris categories that

will be picked up

• Vegetative Debris: Leaves, logs, plants, tree branches.

• Construction and Demolition Debris: Building materials, carpet, drywall, lumber, and plumbing.

• Mixed Debris: Furniture, clothes, mattresses, computers, radios, stereos, televisions, and other devices with a cord.

• Appliances & White Goods – Air conditioners, dishwashers, freezers, refrigerators, stoves, washers, dryers and water heaters.

Debris categories that

will not be picked up

• Normal Household Trash: Normal household trash will not be picked up with debris as part of this program. You should continue to follow your normal garbage schedule.

• Household Hazardous Waste: Cleaning supplies, batteries, propane tanks, tires, lawn chemicals, oils, oil-based paints, stains and pesticides.
