A Friday afternoon fire in a house off Iberia Street left some damage to the structure of the home.

Chief Gordon Copell said the New Iberia Fire Department responded to behind 313 Iberia Street across from the parish courthouse Friday. Upon arrival, a smokey roof was detected and firefighters cut the power and gas to the home.

The fire started in the bedroom of the home and spread out to the hallway. No one was home at the time, and the cause has not yet been identified.
