MYETTE POINT – Fishing slowly and thoroughly, perhaps slower more than usual, Brandon Sellers set the hook and landed beaucoup bass Aug. 21 in a Coteau Bass Hustlers tournament in the Atchafalaya Basin out of Myette Point Boat Landing.

Sellers, an accomplished bass angler from New Iberia, said he cast spinnerbaits and caught fish all day while culling to a five-bass limit weighing 12.19 pounds. His winning limit included the tournament’s biggest bass, a 3.48-pounder.

He fished around lily pads with the spinnerbait and covered every angle, nook and crannies in the lilies to catch about 40 bass. It was a day to remember.

“When you fish by yourself you tend to slow down and fish,” Sellers said after the win.

Six two-man teams fished the bass club’s eighth tournament of the year.

Marlin Hebert and Keith Altazin were second with five bass weighing 11.42 pounds. Tim Sturm and Blaine Miller finished third with a limit tipped the scale to 9.51 pounds and, after a dead bass penalty, a total of 9.26 pounds.
