Westgate, St. Martinville reach prep football semifinals

Two of the three Teche Area high school football teams that were still alive in the LHSAA football playoffs on Friday advanced to the semifinals with wins.
Westgate High School traveled to the Shreveport area, holding off Northwood High School 34-32 to advance to the semifinals for the first time since 2010. The Tigers will travel again this coming week to New Orleans to face top seeded Edna Karr in a Class 4A semifinal game.
St. Martinville also won a high scoring game Friday, beating Lutcher 59-42 in a Class 3A quarterfinal game at SMSH. The third-seeded Tigers will be at home again this coming week, facing No. 7 seed Union Parish.
Franklin, which was the No. 15 seed in Class 2A, dropped a heartbreaking 29-28 decision to No. 7 seed Jonesboro-Hodge Friday at J.C. Dry Stadium in Franklin. Jonesboro-Hodge travels to No. 6 Amite for a semifinal game this coming week.
