Escuriex celebrates 90th birthday with a hundred or so friends, local officials & family

Even at 90 years old, Ray Escurieux still knows how to throw a party.

The well-known New Iberia advocate celebrated his birthday at The Stables on Sugar Oaks Road Friday night with a ton of local officials, business leaders and of course friends and family turning out to honor of Escuriex.

“I’m still kicking for an old fart,” Escuruiex said with a laugh at the event.

“I feel good and I’m still kicking.”

As well as being a longtime resident of Iberia Parish, Escuriex is well-known for his service to the area in the form of volunteer work, community participation and non-profit engagement.

Escuriex was chosen at the 2018 Citizen of the Year for The Daily Iberian, and has been involved with the New Iberia Optimist Club, Iberia Crime Stoppers, World Championship Gumbo Cookoff, New Iberia Recreation Department Softball Hall of Fame, Little League, Greater Iberia Chamber of Commerce, Shadows-on-the-Teche, United Way and Boy Scouts.
