A 17-year-old New Iberia student on her way to becoming an Eagle Scout is working to make gifts for children placed in foster care.
Zoie Schexnayder is a member of BSA Troop 331 in New Iberia and is also a senior at New Iberia School. Schexnayder is currently working to receive the highest award in Boy Scouts, becoming an Eagle Scout.
Eagle Scout candidates have to manage a project that directly affects the community, and Zoie’s project is collecting items to make “PJ Packs” for children who are removed from their homes and placed in emergency foster care.
The PJ Packs contain new pajamas for ages 0-17 years, socks, toothbrushes and age appropriate toys like stuffed animals, rattles, playing cards, coloring books and journals.
Schexnayder’s goal is to collect and assemble 250-300 PJ Packs and donate them to the Department of Child and Family Services.
Those interested in donating should look for her yellow boxes at Delta World Tire and Community First Bank. People can also make a monetary donation by contacting Donna Schexnayder at 380-9892.
