318 Weeks Street
The rundown
After this home was brought to the New Iberia City Council in December for a safety standard hearing, the owner of the property has made steady progress in getting the house up to par.
The issues
Property Inspector Jimmy Landry indicated to the council that this house on Weeks Street needs a lot of work, including windows, siding and structural work that includes ceiling damage caused by either termite or fire damage.
The response
During a public hearing at last week’s city council meeting, the owner of the property gave a list of work that had been happening since a permit was purchased on Dec. 9. More repairs are needed to the structure, but a plan was given to that effect.
What’s next?
Councilwoman Deedy Johnson-Reid recommended 30 more days for the City Council to revisit the property to see if progress was being made. The council will review the house again next week to determine if the property should be taken off the list.
