The New Iberia Parks and Recreation Department offers many different sporting opportunities for the community to stay healthy and active.
The Youth Winter League Basketball Program is held on Monday nights starting at 5:30 p.m. at the City Park. Games also take place at West End park on Thursday night at the same times. The league is currently in it’s fourth week of the season.
Ages for the basketball program are 7-17.
NIRD also hosts a school soccer league at the City Park on Thursday evenings. Game times are 4:30 and 5:30 p.m.
On Wednesday nights, NIRD hosts adult pick-up basketball at the City Park as well as West End Park. The cost is $5 and games are played from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.
Krystal Boyance, Program Coordinator for the New Iberia Parks and Recreation Department, said that the goal of offering the programs is to allow children and adults to have healthy and enjoyable sports opportunities available.
“We have a diverse program here that we take pride in, we don’t look for the best athletes and the most talented players, it’s about enhancing these kids’ skills while allowing them to have fun,” said Boyance.
