A second person is facing charges in connection with the skeletal remains found in New Iberia over the weekend, the New Iberia Police Department confirmed.
Xavier Andrews, 23, of New Iberia, was charged on Tuesday with first-degree murder, aggravated kidnapping, aggravated battery and obstruction of justice.
The skeletal remains were found on Sunday in a vegetated area near the intersection of Cherokee Street and Wysteria Street.
Dwayne Alfred, 24, of New Iberia, was arrested earlier in the week and is facing the same charges in connection with the case.
The skeletal remains are believed to be related to the disappearance of 20-year-old New Iberian resident Deja Cummings, who was reported missing on Oct. 18.
New Iberia investigators are working with the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab to identify the remains.
