A 6-year-old child died after a mobile home fire in New Iberia, according to the Louisiana State Fire Marshal’s Office.

At around 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Iberia Parish Fire District No. 1 went to the 2200 block of Hunter Drive in response to a reported mobile home fire.

The child was rescued from the home and was taken to a nearby hospital but later died, the State Fire Marshal’s Office said in a social media post on Monday.

The origin and cause of the fire remain under investigation by the State Fire Marshal’s Office in partnership with the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office.
