UPDATE: Two people sought in Friday drive-by shooting that injured five

Two people are wanted by New Iberia police in connection with a drive-by shooting last week that resulted in the injury of five people, including an infant.

In a news conference on Tuesday, New Iberia police stated that Amiri Joseph Benioit and Mactori Jaqwan Doucet are each wanted on seven counts of attempted first-degree murder, aggravated criminal damage to property, illegal use of weapons, and firearms present in a firearm-free zone.

Both suspects are considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information on their whereabouts is urged to contact their local law enforcement agency.

The shooting was reported around 9:30 p.m. on Friday, March 18, in the 200 block of C V Jackson Drive. New Iberia Police Chief Todd D’Albor said a total of seven people were in the vicinity of the gunfire.

The night of the shooting, injured victims were taken to an area hospital for treatment. Three victims were considered to have non-life-threatening injuries but two victims, which included the infant, were in critical condition. In an update on Monday, Iberia police said that an adult victim lost an eye but was released from the hospital. Police also said on Monday that the infant is in stable condition.

“It takes a special kind of bottom feeder to do something as horrendous as this,” D’Albor said during the Tuesday news conference.

D’Albor said the suspects were known to be traveling in a gray 2020 Dodge Charger with a temporary Louisiana tag with the number 20209092. However, he said the vehicle is also known to have a Texas temporary tag placed on it.The New Iberia Police Department continues to investigate a drive-by shooting that injured five people late Friday, including a 7-month-old infant.
