Catholic High finished the season as the No. 2 team in district 7-2A

The Catholic High School softball team found success this season under the direction of new coaches Nelda and Brian Pontiff. The 14-16 Lady Panthers entered the Division III playoffs as the No. 9 seed, and advanced to face top-ranked Notre Dame after an emphatic 17-0 first round win over Episcopal of Baton Rouge.

Catholic High’s late season unbeaten run, which lasted for nine games, propelled the team into the number two spot in District 7-2A with a record of 6-1.

Braye Bernard led the team’s offense, ending the season with a .571 batting average and recording 9 doubles, 3 triples, and 10 home runs for a combined 46 RBIs. Riley White (.452 AVG, 30 RBIs) and Bailey Mire (.397 AVG, 20 RBIs) rounded out the offensive top three.

On defense, pitchers Mia Poirier (121.2 IP, 140 strikeouts) and Emma Hamner (46 IP, 34 strikeouts) combined to make Catholic High one of the hardest teams to score on. Catcher Riley White proved to be a brick wall on defense, ending the season with a fielding percentage of .982 from 168 total chances and 160 putouts.
