5 Star Elite won the sixth-grade championship in Youngsville

New Iberia’s 5 Star Elite youth basketball team picked up four straight wins to be crowned sixth-grade state basketball champions.

The tournament, which was held at both the Youngsville Sports Complex and Northside High School, featured the top youth basketball teams from around the state.

Following a 38-37 defeat to B&B Elite, the New Iberia team rebounded with an emphatic 61-20 win over the Louisiana Jaguars. Entering bracket play, 5 Star Elite faced off against Fleur De Lis Select, winning 47-12.

In the tournament semi-finals, 5 Star Elite continued their winning run, advancing past Thibodaux Express after a close game that ended 37-35. The championship game proved easier for the soon-to-be champs, who defeated the Acadiana Stars 57-25.

5 Star Elite is coached by Kendrick Porter, Galen Archangel, Skiez Antoine, Willie Mitchell, and Oliver Winston.
