Westgate Track and Field Team celebrates title-winning season with awards ceremony

The Westgate High School cross country and track and field teams celebrated a successful year with an award ceremony, highlighting the many athletic and academic accomplishments achieved by the Tigers.

Head coach Philip Guidry spoke about the success of the programs and how the athletes worked hard to put themselves in a position to achieve their goals.

Guidry also focused on the continuing education of the coaching staff, which he said allows the team to maximize their performances.

Girls team coach James Wallace announced the awards for the girls track and field team, acknowledging multiple athletes that excelled at the district and regional meets.

Wallace also thanked his team for supporting him through his medical absence this season.

Guidry returned to the podium to highlight the back-to-back Class 4A state champion track and field team.

Speaking about the hardships the team faced due to the COVID-19 virus, Guidry said that his team was making up for their lost season with their latest state championship.
