The New Iberia Senior High baseball team has been honored with multiple players named to the District 3-5A All-District list.
After starting the season 6-9 after the first 15 games, the team found their form and strung together five wins in a row, including a dramatic 12-5 defeat over district rival Comeaux. The rest of the district schedule was difficult, but double wins over Southside showed that the Yellow Jackets can’t be judged solely by their record. NISH finished their season with a 5-0 win over Hanson Memorial, narrowly missing out on a playoff spot with a combined 14-20 record.
Three NISH seniors were named to the All-District teams: Christian Thomas, Luke Landry, and Darron Degeyter. NISH head coach Eli Lewellyn praised his players for making the All-District teams, especially with how competitive the district is.
“It’s very difficult to get a first- or second-team award in our district because there are D1 guys on every team so the guys that got awards are well deserving of recognition,” he said.
