Highland Baptist freshman Tyler Blissett competed in the 2022 Nike Outdoor Nationals in Oregon on Thursday.
Blissett previously competed for Highland’s track and field team, picking up district and regional championships before finishing in the top ten at the LHSAA Class 1A state championship in multiple events.
Blissett also competed in the 2022 Nike Indoor Nationals earlier this year, picking up a first place finish in the middle school boys 2-mile event with a time of 10:14.85.
At the 2022 Nike Outdoor Nationals, Blissett improved on his previous performances to finish in seventh place with a final time of 10:03.01. His latest time is the second fastest 2-mile time that he has ever achieved, beaten only by his 9:59.41 time from the Ponchatoula Invite in March.
Now that Blissett has moved into the high school divisions, he will begin competing against faster competition from around the nation. His goal has been to drop below the ten-minute mark, and he is improving rapidly to achieve it.
