The St. Mary Parish Council is set to go into a special meeting Wednesday where an executive session will be held to interview candidates for the Registrar of Voters position.

A discussion of the character, professional competence or mental and phsyical health of a person is an acceptable use of the executive session statute, provided that notice is given 24 hours before the meeting.

The registrar position was filled last year following the appointment of Byron Stelly to the position. Stelly was appointed to the role after the departure of Jolene Holcomb, who retired in August 2021 following 23 years of service as the St. Mary Parish Registrar of Voters. Stelly has since moved to the St. Landry Registrar of Voters.

The special meeting will also discuss three amendments to the parish’s home rule charter, which will be introduced by Councilman J. Ina.

The meeting is set to take place 6 p.m. Wednesday at the St. Mary Parish Courthouse.
