Road construction to start Jan. 16

- LDOT has announced a $4.8 million project on La. 88 from Snapper Road to New Horizon Drive, and on Fremin Road at its west junction with La. 88.
The City of New Iberia advises motorists that Glenn Lege Construction will begin street improvements on several streets beginning Monday, Jan. 16.
Streets include St. Jude Avenue (from Admiral Doyle Drive to Robertson Street), St. Mary Street (from Walton Street to Hopkins Street), Julia Street (from railroad tracks to East Pershing Street), Ann Street (from East Dale Street to Ivy Street) and Park Avenue (from South Lewis Street to the concrete transition.
Residents and drivers should anticipate time delays. The streets at times will have loose gravel and oil on the roadway.
During construction it may be necessary to limit access and detour traffic. If a detour is necessary, detour signage will be in place.
“The City of New Iberia appreciates your patience during construction,” according to a prepared statement. “If possible, please avoid the construction areas. Drive with caution and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment.”
Area residents should exercise caution when driving, walking or biking near an active construction zone.
