New Iberia residents celebrated Martin Luther King Jr. Day two days early with a parade that rolled through Pershing Street Saturday.
Local groups that included church organizations and dance groups collaborated to make the parade, which started at the corner of Ann Street and Twenty Arpent and finished on Hopkins Streets, happen.
Trucks, ATVs, and dance groups all marched down Pershing Street with bystanders watching the event near the Iberia Parish Courthouse as the parade took place.
The parade was one of the largest seen in observance of the MLK holiday in New Iberia, and finished at Bunk Johnson Park with a variety of speakers, vendors and other festivities to commemorate the life and legacy of King.
