Vermilion Parish fatal accident results in vehicular homicide charge

A fatal accident of a bicylist in Vermilion Parish on Jan. 9 has resulted in an arrest of a 20-year-old Lake Arthur man.

Through further investigation of the accident, Louisiana state troopers determined the bicyclist, Allen Vincent, was traveling east in the eastbound lane of travel. At the same time, a Toyota Tundra was traveling west in the opposing lane of travel just prior to colliding into the bicycle.

The driver of the Toyota Tundra has been identified as 20-year-old Kane G. Leblanc of Lake Arthur. Following toxicology results from the State Police Crime Lab, an arrest warrant was issued and Leblanc was booked into the Vermilion Parish Jail on Sunday on the following charges of vehicular homicide, driving on right side of road and possession of alcoholic beverages in a motor vehicle.

Vincent, who was not wearing an approved helmet, was pronounced dead at the scene. Leblanc, who was properly restrained, was not injured. The bicycle was equipped with illuminating devices, but it is unknown if the devices were operable at the time of the crash.
