The Books Along the Teche Festival partners with the Iberia Parish library, Sir Speedy print shop and The Daily Iberian to give students a chance to test their literary skills and possibly win a prize.

Students grades fourth through sixth can enter the essay contest, which sees contestants writing a 50-200 word story based on adventures in south Louisiana or the Children’s library alligator mascot Choo Choo. Judges will grade the works on originality, creativity/style, and grammar.

To enter, contestants should drop off submissions written on lined paper attached to a completed application form. Students can drop off their submission to the Children’s Room of the Main Branch of the Iberia Parish Library anytime before Monday, March 20.

First place will receive $50, with second receiving $2, third receiving $20 and Honorable mentions receiving $15. Each place will earn a certificate alongside their prize award.

Judges will announce winning entries Saturday, April 1 at noon at George Rodrigue Memorial Park.
