The Lydia Cajun Food Fest is once again around the corner as the festival kicks off Sept. 8 for a two-day event.
This year’s festival will feature a variety of local bands along with Cajun delicacies that will be able to be sampled by event-goers. Some of the cats include The 5th Edition, Jeff Foreman and the Loreauville Playboys, Swampland Revival, Johnny Chauvin and The Bad Boys.
The festival will officially open at 5 p.m. on Sept. 8, with food vendors and the festival carnival opening up at Weeks Park.
Cruisin Cajun Country will also be putting on an open car show starting at 9 a.m. on Sept. 9. All makes and models are welcome, and awards will be given at 2 p.m. that day.
A cancer survivor walk is also slated for 10 a.m., which will be followed by the opening of the craft show at 11 a.m.
The Food Fest will officially close at 9 p.m.
The event is a fundraiser for the Lydia Cancer Association, which raises funds for cancer patients in Iberia, St. Martin, St. Mary and Vermilion parishes. The association was officially formed in 2003 when members saw an urgent need for financial assistance to local cancer victims.
It was initially formed by James Frawley Jr., a cancer victim who wanted to help in the cure for cancer and was assisted by the Morton Salt Relay for Life team, according to event information.
