South Louisiana Community College announced the launch of their upcoming Adult Education and English as a Second Language (ESL) classes beginning October 9th on the New Iberia Campus. The free classes are specifically tailored to accommodate busy schedules, offering evening sessions that provide in-person learning opportunities for individuals seeking to further their education.

Adult Education Classes

Monday and Wednesday, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Whether aiming to earn a high school equivalency diploma (HiSET, formerly known as the GED) or preparing for college and career pathways, the Adult Education program is designed to empower individuals on their educational journey.

The Adult Education program offers flexibility with night time classes for students facing hectic schedules and a comprehensive curriculum that covers reading, writing and math.

Individuals must be 18 years or older to be eligible. The program requires applicants to pass SLCC’s Digital Literacy Exam, complete registration and pretesting in reading, math and language, acquire a level from the National Reporting System and attend a virtual orientation.

English as a Second Language (ESL) Classes

Tuesday and Thursday, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

SLCC designed their ESL classes to help individuals preparing for college and seeking employment to improve their reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills in English.

After taking a placement test to measure English skills, SLCC places individuals in classes with students at a similar level. The structured lessons cater to specific learning goals, allowing students to practice in groups, individually, and with instructors.
