A ribbon cutting was held at Bouligny Plaza for the recently completed Felicite's Landing project.

New Iberia city government held a ribbon cutting ceremony for the completion of the Felicite’s Landing project which now sits on Fulton Street.

The landing gives direct boaters on the Bayou Teche direct access to downtown New Iberia, and will be especially useful during one of the many festivals held at Bouligny Plaza.

According to a prepared statement, the landing “gives recreational boaters another means of travel, directly to the center of New Iberia. Bouligny Plaza and the Steamboat Pavilion where all fairs, festivals, special events and the farmer’s market are held.”

The city noted that the dock has already been in use during the recently completed World Championship Gumbo Cookoff which took place earlier this month.

Adding more infrastructure to accommodate the Bayou Teche, which is recognized as a national paddle trail, will hopefully encourage more use in New Iberia.

”The Bayou Teche is a nationally recognized paddle trail and is a beautiful waterway that contains centuries of history,” according to the statement. “It was a means of travel for steamboats carrying travelers, and commercial barges transporting crops and local industry’s goods.”
