- Longfellow Evangeline will host a Turkey Trot Fun Run in conjunction with the LSU AgCenter.
Longfellow Evangeline State Historic Site partners with LSU AgCenter’s Healthy St. Martin Coalition to host a free Turkey Trot Fun Run after the Veterans Memorial Flag Raising Ceremony on Nov. 11 at 10 a.m. at Longfellow-Evangeline State Historic Site located at 1200 N Main St, St Martinville.
Community organizations will be providing interactive health and safety activities for families. Everyone is invited to join this free event to learn more about Veterans Day and healthy living. The event will commence with a flag raising ceremony by the American Legion.
“In order to improve the health of our communities, participants can visit booths focusing on health and wellness, before walking, running, jogging, or biking around our park,” Site Interpretive Ranger Philip Fry said. “Thereafter, we will celebrate and honor our veterans with a program in our museum. All are welcome!”
The Veterans Memorial Flag Ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. followed by the fun run starting immediately after. After the Turkey Trot, the museum will be open and historic site tours available.
“Our coalition wants to make active, healthy living more accessible in the community, so we thought a fun run would be a great way to bring everyone together for a physically active celebration,” said Jessica Randazzo, LSU AgCenter nutrition agent.
