Roland was born in Iberia Parish in 1943 and graduated from Erath High School in 1961. He met the love of his life, Mitzi, in 1960 at Angelle’s dancehall in St. Martinville. Some of his fondest memories were of the times he spent dancing the night away with Mitzi at all of the surrounding honky tonks.
Roland’s life was a testament to love expressed through acts of service, such as cooking for loved ones and spending quality time with family and friends. His joy knew no bounds when he was babysitting his grandchildren, delighting in riding them around the yard on the tractor, creating precious memories filled with laughter and play.
Recognized as an exceptionally hard worker, Roland’s resilience and toughness were admirable traits that guided his journey through life, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him. After undergoing 50+ surgeries we can definitely say that he maximized the use of all of his body parts and his enduring spirit and resilience in the face of suffering were truly remarkable.
Though Roland has left the world, the love and warmth he shared will forever echo through the lives he touched. He will be deeply missed and remembered fondly by all who had the honor of knowing such a dedicated and loving man. His ability to find joy and laughter despite personal pain speaks volumes about his remarkable character and selflessness.
Roland Antoine Barras Sr. was a devoted husband to Jeanette “Mitzi” Barras; a cherished father to Roland “Rod” Antoine Barras Jr., Angie Green (Tim), Brock Barras (Christy) and his Canadian “son” Claude Tremblay (Liz); and a beloved grandfather to Zachery (Kayla) and Jacob Carline, Ethan, Mazie, Caroline, Julia, Benjamin, Paul Barras; “adopted” grandfather to Amelia Hebert; and brother to Elena East, Isabelle “Sue” Credeur, Mary LeBouef and Mona Leleux.
