The Destination Louisiana podcast takes you on a journey through the wonders of Louisiana.

The podcast is made up of the trio of Robbie and Wendy Bourque and producer Duane Touchet, all Louisiana natives, who all bring something different to the podcast.

Duane is known as “Big D,” Robbie is the central medium and of course, Wendy tells the jokes. They are a perfect mix, like a pot of gumbo.

When Robbie and Wendy moved away, he said they realized how much they missed Louisiana and having their store in Colorado, Cajun Comfort, they were still able to bring a piece of them wherever they went.

Now that he and Wendy are back home, Robbie, a New Iberia native, said he wanted to continue carrying on the Cajun traditions from his home state. After talking with Duane one day, Robbie and Wendy were inspired to take their listeners on a trip around Louisiana.

Duane said everyone knows the basics of what to do when they come to Louisiana, like going to New Orleans during Mardi Gras, or taking a boat ride through a swamp. But with Destination Louisiana, it’s a different approach.

“We want to do things that people are not aware of that we have to offer, or even the people that live here forget about our heritage and culture,” Robbie said.

Destination Louisiana’s first podcast was released a few weeks ago around Halloween, covering a classic in these parts of Louisiana living: the supernatural with Louisiana Spirits, a local organization with chapters across the state which thoroughly investigates paranormal claims. They investigate claims from businesses and homeowners alike.

Their second episode, released in the middle of November, gets you into the holiday spirit, with a breakdown of the festivities they have planned for the upcoming season, while also getting into the history of the historic village.

“It all ties in together,” Robbie said.

The three visit different places around Louisiana and talk with the locals who know all about different subjects. Hence the name, since they take the destination to their listeners. The podcasts are short, ranging from 20 to 30 minutes, giving you enough time to learn about the subject and its history.

“We ask certain questions about the history and significance of the site,” Robbie said. We ask if there are any interesting events that took place or stories associated with the site, and of course if there is any ghost story.”

Many visitors think New Orleans is all there is to do when they come to Louisiana, but Robbie said they are aiming to help expand people’s ideas with Destination Louisiana.

“We just have so much to offer, the state has so much to offer,” Robbie said. “II want to promote Louisiana tourism.”

Robbie said they plan to cover some of Louisiana’s most interesting places, including St. Martinville, Lake Charles, Shreveport, and of course places like Baton Rouge and New Orleans.

They plan to speak to various people, too. They want to speak to local musicians, local chefs, so their listeners know the places and people to see when they are in town.

“They can go to any historic site or state park and they can see this and visit that,” Robbie said. “I would like to educate them on us.”

Robbie is all about the journey before the destination. It’s an important mantra that he follows in his everyday life. His hope, and his goal is to have others look at it the same way. They want Destination Louisiana to be the reason why they enjoyed their time here.

“We want to promote Louisiana, and if we can get people to come here, I want them to say that’s because of us,” Robbie said. “That would be great.”
