A Mass of Christian burial will be held for Mrs. Sandra Lynn Pepper Freeman at 10 a.m. on Monday, November 27, 2023, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, officiated by Fr. Alexander Albert. The funeral home will open at 4 p.m. on Sunday, November 26, 2023, with a Rosary to be recited at 6 p.m. The funeral home will reopen at 8 a.m. until the time of the service on Monday. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in New Iberia.

Please join the family in praying for the repose of the soul of Mrs. Sandra Lynn Pepper Freeman, who was born into eternal life on November 12, 2023. Sandra was the second of two daughters born to Clarence and Henrietta Blanchard Pepper on August 23, 1945.

Sandra was educated by the Religious Sisters of Mercy at St. Joseph School in Jeanerette. She was the 1958 Football Queen, attended rally in 1961, placing 1st and 2nd in French and 1st in CBEA and graduated as salutatorian of her 1963 class. She attended the University of Southwestern Louisiana in Lafayette (ULL) graduating with an Associate’s Degree in Business.

She married Patrick Warren Freeman in September 1967 and although they did not have any children of their own, she mothered several of her nieces and nephews and was a “Nanny” to many others. She worked as a State Clinical Worker with the Department of Health and Hospitals in the Baldwin, Jeanerette and New Iberia public health units from June 1966 until April 1996 when she retired with 30 years of service in public health.

She was a parishioner of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister and a member of the Parish Council and Entertainment Committee and a member of the Catholic Daughters of America. She was a member of the Ladies Altar Society of Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church, the H2U Senior Friends at Dauterive’s Hospital, a member of the Retired State Employees Association and a member of the Friends of the Jeanerette Museum and several pokeno clubs.

Sandra enjoyed watching the Ragin’ Cajuns basketball team as her and Pat were season ticket holders for several years, watching the New Orleans Saints and LSU Tigers play football and solving crossword or sudoku puzzles and trivia. She embraced the music of Jimmy Buffet and loved the beach life, enjoying many tropical vacations and cruises over the years.

She is survived by her beloved cat Cane; and several Godchildren, nieces, nephews and brother/sister-in-laws. She is also survived by her special cousins Richard and Diane Doyle, Donna Pepper and Richard and Lorraine Pepper; and close family friends Sandra and Hoa Tran.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 32 years Patrick Freeman; her parents; her only sister Rose Mary Pepper Bergeron Delaune; her Godparents Didier Landry and Beulah Blanchard Pepper; and several dogs and cats that she lovingly cared for throughout her life.

Cody Bergeron, Peter Derouen, Floyd Frederick, T. J. Frederick, Robert Johnson and Hoa Tran will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Ralph Bergeron, Richard Doyle, Kirby Hebert and Richard Pepper.

The family would like to extend their appreciation to Dr. Carl Ditch and his office staff for the care provided to Sandra throughout her life.
