Teche Cafe is one of Loreauville’s longest lasting family-owned and operated restaurants.
Located in the heart of the village at 105 N Main St in Loreauville, Teche Cafe first opened over 19 years ago by Rose Anne and Byron Decuir. It has stood along the Teche as one of the few dine-in restaurants in the area.
Nicole Daniels has worked at the Teche Cafe off and on for the last nine years. She said that the Teche Cafe offers a wide-variety of options.
“All of our food is home-made,” Daniels said.
The Teche Cafe serves local Cajun cuisine, including crawfish etouffee, fettuccine, and if you’re not a seafood person, they also have you covered with hamburger steaks, fried chicken and so much more.
The Teche Cafe serves fresh food, including Louisiana seafood, keeping it as close to home as they can. It is what has helped drive in its customers for years now.
“Our food is home-made from scratch, and I mean everything is delicious,” Daniels said. “It takes a little more work from everybody to put into it, but it’s worth it.”
The Teche Cafe serves a daily plate lunch and on Thursday and Friday nights, they change up the specials. Saturday nights are their steak night. But their biggest seller? Their daily plate lunches, which are a hit, Daniels said.
Their lunch specials taste like home-cooked meals. Rice and gravy being one of the main dishes. Their plate lunches tend to sell out everyday.
“It pretty much stays the same,” Daniels said. “It’s down-home cooking.”
The Teche Cafe has 15 tables, close to 900-square feet in the dining area, giving a homey and a welcoming environment. A quaint place that makes you want to stop, have a meal, and enjoy a laugh with family and friends.
The location of the Teche Cafe, near the bayou of the same name, is a perfect spot. Its in the middle of everywhere, including 15 minutes away from New Iberia, and 15 minutes away from St. Martinville.
“It’s not a hard drive for anyone,” Daniels said. “It’s easy to find.”
As the cafe is set to celebrate over 20 years, the Teche Cafe has stood the test of time in the village because the community cares about their people.
Daniles said everyone wants to help everyone.
“They take care of their people, they really do,” Daniles said. “You are not going to find a better family and community than in Loreauville.”
Editor’s note: The Teche Cafe will be under new management in the coming weeks. Please be on the lookout in The Daily Iberian for a feature announcing the new owners.
