Wendy Lane and Victoria Lane Alleman are bringing the bling to Acadiana with stylish custom-made jackets and accessories. We spoke to the fashionable ladies about their newly launched DIY concept, Breezy+co.
Tell us about your backstory.
WL: I have always thrived on the magic and sparkle of life. Since Victoria was young, I have always surrounded her with art and created opportunities for her to express herself through art, fashion or dance.
VLA: Because of that, I have always been passionate about creating. I paint and teach yoga. I love decorating and making clothes.
How was Breezy+co. born?
WL: Victoria wore a jacket I made to an event. I sewed on designer-inspired patches – Louis Vuitton, Prada, Dolce & Gabbana – and everyone went nuts over it. The next day, she came to me with the idea to make the jacket available to everyone but let them design it with their own flair. From there, the concept just snowballed.
VLA: I was in the final weeks of maternity leave and was starting to feel stir-crazy. This project became my creative outlet.
How does Breezy+co. work?
WL: You pick your jacket, blazer or trucker hat, which we supply. Then, you choose your favorite bling from our 700+ patches, studs, pins, pearls and stones and start designing your jacket. You are the designer, and your jacket or hat is your canvas. We lock in your design, then take it home to hand-sew the patches onto your piece. Every Breezy+co. order is an exclusive piece of art created by you.
VLA: We source the jackets, blazers, hats and patches from local Acadiana spots and online vendors. The jackets range from $30 to $90, and we have over 50 styles. It’s important to us to have size inclusivity, so we carry kids sizes from three months to 5T and adult sizes from XS to XXL. The hats are $20, and the patches range from $1-$5. We are also working with patch designers to create original patches.
This sounds so fun! Where can we design our own jackets?
VLA: Currently, we are only doing pop-ups – it creates novelty that you never know where we might be. This year, we plan to do birthday parties, wine nights and girls’ nights, which will be super exciting.
WL: And, who knows what 2024 and beyond could bring for Breezy+co.? Wouldn’t a storefront be fun?
Where does the name Breezy+co. originate?
WL: The name comes from my name – Wendy. As in windy or breezy…get it? Victoria had her first baby girl a few months back, and she will call me Breezy. I taught Victoria to find sparkle and magic in life, and if you can’t find it, make it yourself! For my granddaughter, I hope to encourage the same joys in life. Surrounding her with beauty and showing her how to create her own will help her discover her own passion and love for creating.
How has the success of Breezy+co. been?
VLA: We were blown away by our first pop-ups. We relied solely on word of mouth and social media to promote Breezy+co. and before we knew it, News15 did a special on us. We sold over 40 jackets, blazers and hats.
What are your plans for Breezy+co.?
VLA: We want to expand our pop-ups, streamline our process, and provide more patches, stones and studs for our Breezy Babes.
WL: And look out for Breezy+co. custom pieces in 2024.
VLA: We truly believe in local and female-owned businesses and are honored to be part of the community. If you’d like to collaborate on a project for a pop-up or design we would love to meet with you.
