Dave Lopez has a unique spice for life.

Growing up in New Iberia, he loved to cook. He gained that love from his family, all who were at one point in time in the kitchen. From his aunts, uncles to his mom and grandmother, he loved what came out of the kitchen.

So much so, he started Dave’s Bayou Flava, a local product that offers low sodium without compromising its flavor. Dave’s Bayou Flava was also started because of his wife, Jeanne, whose dietary restrictions required low sodium seasonings.

Lopez started the business in 2021 and has started to pick up steam. But for Lopez, there is more to know about him than just his spices. He recently sat down with The Daily Iberian to speak about his life, heroes, motivations, and more. This is Behind the Grill: Dave Lopez.

Who is your hero?

My grandfather Howard Lopez Sr is my hero.

If you could live anywhere, where would it be?

If I could live anywhere it would be a log cabin in the mountains.. maybe Montana, Ga, or Tenn.

What’s your favorite family vacation?

My wife and I love to visit family out of state, that’s a wonderful vacation for me, I’m simple.

What would you change about yourself if you could.?

I don’t think I would change anything, I’m created in an image and that’s the image I would love to keep.

What motivates you to work hard?

To provide for myself, to provide for my wife, and to be able to be a blessing to others, that’s my motivation.

What’s your favorite thing about your career?

The favorite thing about my career is having a CDL. When I was a kid i use ro draw big trucks, not knowing that one day I would be behind the wheel of the very thing I was drawing.

What have you learned about yourself in 2023?

I learned in 2023 that you will struggle, difficult times will come your way, you will fall, you will face obstacles that look impossible to concur, but with prayer and hard work and the right people on your side you can overcome them.

What is your proudest accomplishment?

My proudest accomplishment is becoming an entrepreneur.
