A Mass of Christian burial will be conducted for Mr. Paul “Pete” Bourque Sr., 81, at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, January 19, 2024, at St. Marcellus Catholic Church in Rynella with Father James Nguyen officiating. Entombment will follow at St. Marcellus Mausoleum.
Visitation will be held from 8:30 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Thursday, January 18, 2024, at David Funeral Home of New Iberia. A Rosary will be prayed at 10 a.m. by The Knights of Columbus.
A native and resident of New Iberia, Mr. Bourque passed away at 3:34 a.m. on Sunday, January 14, 2024, at his residence. Mr. Bourque, known for his friendly jokester personality, warm heart and friendly demeanor left a lasting impact on those who were fortunate enough to know him.
A true aficionado of camaraderie, Mr. Bourque found joy in playing dominos with his friends. His commitment to community extended to his involvement with the Knights of Columbus, where he contributed to the betterment of the lives of those around him.
Mr. Bourque’s connection with the land was evident in his role as a dedicated farmer. His green thumb extended beyond the fields, as he took great pleasure in gardening. Whether cultivating crops, tending to his garden or raising cattle, his passion for the Earth was palpable.
A man of diverse interests, Mr. Bourque found relaxation in the simple pleasures of life. He enjoyed watching westerns and staying informed through Fox News. His leisure time was often spent in the company of his family, relishing moments with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His love for family was unwavering and the bonds he forged will endure through the generations.
In quieter moments, Mr. Bourque found solace in his favorite recliner, accompanied by his loyal companion “Garf” the cat. Together they shared countless moments of tranquility, creating a space of comfort and joy.
As we bid farewell to Mr. Paul Bourque, let us remember the laughter he brought, the wisdom he shared and the love he bestowed upon those fortunate enough to be a part of his life. May his spirit continue to live on in the memories and hearts of all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years Margaret Bourque; two children, Sheryl Bourque Bouy of New Iberia and Paul “Beanie” Bourque Jr. of Coteau; four grandchildren, Skyla Bourque Lierman and husband Josh, Megan Castille and husband Cody, Keagan Bourque and wife Taylor, Kaylan Escuriex and husband Zach; eight great-grandchildren, Braidyn, Cameron, Cole, Ella Grace, Ryker, Eli, Bradley May and Hadley Nicole; siblings Dolores Dartez, Ralph Bourque and Allen Bourque.
He was preceded in death by his parents Laurent and Anita Bourque; four siblings, Donald Bourque, John L. Bourque, Elvis Bourque and Loretta B. Leleux; and a daughter-in-law Dina Viator Bourque.
The family would like to thank his doctors, Eric Thomassee with Cardiology Specialists of Acadiana and Dr. Agostino Ingraldi with Cardiovascular Institute of the South.
In lieu of flowers or plants, donations for prayers can be made to St. Marcellus Catholic Church in Mr. Bourque’s honor.
