A Duson native, Lisa Josey and her husband, Alabama native Gene, started their own business in 2017, Josey’s Goods, a business providing farm-to-table products using local Louisiana farmers.
Josey’s Goods sells everything, from jams, preserves, and jellies, and hot sauces. Josey’s business was started after her and her husband wanted something new. Now, she is enjoying her work.
But more importantly, the people she gets to meet.
Josey recently sat down with The Daily Iberian to talk about her life, owning a restaurant, favorites, and so much more.
What was it like growing up in Duson?
It was a small town growing up in Duson. It was just a small town. I rode my bike just about everyday. It was a quiet town when I was growing up. It was about 1,500 people
What have you learned most about yourself owning a business?’
It takes a lot of hard work. A lot of faith. Everything we do, we cook the product before its sold and we have to have faith people are going to love what we are offering. My confidence level has really grown. I can walk into a room and talk to everyone.
Do you think you are doing something that can make an impact?
I am surprised at the level of influence I have. Everyone is living their life and everyone is doing their own thing, but when you realize the effect you have on people, that is really what is surprising to us.
Would you rather be able to fly or be invisible?
I think invisible, because a little fly on the wall would be interesting. Heights aren’t my thing.
Do you have a go-to comfort food?
I would say Pho soup or gumbo. And chocolate. It makes everything better.
What is your favorite color?
Green.
Your husband is from Alabama. So are you an LSU fan and is he an Alabama fan?
Nope. We are Ragin’ Cajun and Auburn fans. I am an Alumni from UL, so I have my degree and I support them. And he is rebellious. He said he’s for Auburn because everyone is for Alabama, so we are not fans at all. Go Cajuns!
What are you currently watching or reading right now?
I am a huge killer podcast person. My husband listens to a lot of business podcasts. I like true crime stuff.
Is that what you listen to when you are working?
No, we listen to music when we are working. I have to conerate. We listen to music from the time we start in the kitchen until the time we finish. We like classic rock. It’s something to keep our energy up.
Where do you like to go on vacation?
The beach, camping, and fishing. I am an outdoors girl
If you could travel back in time, where would you like to go?
I think I would like to travel back to when our ancestors first arrived here. It would allow me to learn about the plants and how they used them to heal themselves.
