Josey’s Goods is as fresh to farm as it gets.
Josey’s Goods believes in providing the highest quality products by producing farm to market jams, preserves, jellies, and hot sauces. The produce used in their products are locally sourced and grown by small farmers throughout the state of Louisiana.
Owners Lisa and her husband, Gene, Josey started their business in 2017 after they both were looking for something different. Josey’s Goods was started by the two out of necessity.
“We started pulling from the pantry and went from there,” Lisa said. “We grew up doing this. My grandfather was a farmer. Growing up, we always had a summer garden. It’s a way of life.”
One of the biggest advantages for Lisa and Josey’s Goods is the farm-to-table approach that they use for their products also supports farmers in the area. All of their products are made out of their home and are seasonal.
From strawberry jams and jellies to pepper jelly with spices ranging from mild, medium all the way to extreme, Josey’s Goods also sells blackberries, peaches and a variety of vegetables, including dill pickles, spicy dill pickles, beats, carrots, green beans and more, all coming from her home state. Throughout the year, they have at least 50 items that are sold.
“If it grows in Louisiana, it’s going in a jar,” Lisa, a Duson native, said. “We try to do something at least once. We tell our customers that they will never get bored with our products because the menu is always changing.”
Josey’s Goods can be found and sold at various locations. Their products can be found at the Lafayette Farmers & Artisans Market at Moncu Park, as well as different pop ups throughout the state and Texas.
“We’re in 16 locations,” Lisa said. “You can find us at Drug Emporium Lafayette, Acadian Village. We expand from DeRidder to New Orleans.”
Josey’s Goods can also be found in Iberia parish at the Corner Grocery in Loreauville, the Market in Morgan City and Amis Grocery in Lafayette. They can also be found at the New Iberia Art Walk as well as Shadows-on-the-Teche in the spring.
Lisa said the farmers in New Iberia are as good as it gets, as she and Gene are able to sell high quality products that come from the Teche Area.
“We do get a lot of fruits and vegetables from Iberia Parish,” Lisa said. “Anytime there is an activity there, we truly try to be there.”
Going on almost seven years, Lisa said the reception she has gotten from her customers is warm and welcoming. Especially in Iberia Parish, the jams, jellies, fruits and vegetables resonate with many of the residents.
“A lot of people still do what we do,” Lisa said. “Aunts, uncles and all of that. The younger generation tells us all the time it’s what people in their family used to do. When people try our products and it reminds them of home, it makes me feel really good.”
Lisa and her husband will still continue to crank out the products at Josey’s Goods, with the end-goal to eventually open up a commercial kitchen to expand the business. They know when the time is right, it will happen. But for now, getting to interact with so many locals is a driving force for the owners of Josey’s Goods.
“Knowing that we are supporting our farmers and keeping them growing, and doing our part to help them, is huge,”
