LOREAUVILLE—A Mass of Christian burial will be conducted for Annie Lou Mestayer, 85, at 11 a.m. on Thursday, January 25, 2024, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Fr. Barry Crochet as celebrant. The entombment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, and resume at 8 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday, January 25, 2024. A Rosary will be prayed at 6 p.m. on Wednesday in the funeral home.
A native of New Iberia and resident of Loreauville, Annie Lou Mestayer passed away at 5:21 a.m. on Friday, January 19, 2024, at the Landmark Nursing Home.
Annie Lou Mestayer, a devoted wife and pillar of her community, passed away at the age of 85. For 66 years she shared a beautiful and enduring love story with her beloved husband Olan Mestayer. Annie Lou’s life was characterized by simplicity, as she and Olan led a humble existence that embraced the richness of togetherness. Her commitment to hard work was evident during her tenure with the Iberia Parish School Board System, where she served as a valued member of the school support staff. Annie Lou’s dedication to her family knew no bounds and her love extended warmly to her children, grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
In the quiet moments of her life, Annie Lou found joy in two cherished activities — baking and visits to the casino. Her kitchen was a place filled with the aroma of love and freshly baked delights, reflecting the warmth that defined her nurturing spirit. Additionally, the thrill of the casino brought excitement and entertainment to her days. Annie Lou Mestayer leaves behind a legacy of love, hard work and simple pleasures that will be fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Annie Lou is survived by children Steven Mestayer, Dawn Mestayer, Chris Mestayer (Bonita) and Boyd Mestayer (Jennifer); grandchildren Kirsten Mestayer, Trinity Durand, Regan Mestayer, Kenedi Mestayer; great-grandchild Parker Mestayer.
She was preceded in death by her husband Olan Mestayer; her parents Wally and Ducelia Delahoussaye Dore; one son, Mark Mestayer; one grandchild, Lexi Mestayer; and her siblings Elsie Fremin, Inez Bass, Eldridge Broussard, Zan Broussard, Delton Dore.
Honored to serve as pallbearers are Steven Mestayer, Chris Mestayer, Boyd Mestayer, Regan Mestayer, Mickey Durand and Ryan Stephens.
The family would like to thank Traditions Hospice for the love and support they shared with Annie Lou during her time of need.
