The Iberia Crime Stoppers are holding a follow-up award ceremony Wednesday, Jan. 24 at 1:30 p.m. in the New Iberia Police Department’s Cliff Aucoin Meeting Room.
Awards will be handed out to 2022 NIPD MVP Sgt. Tyler Sohm, Sgt. Daesha Hughes and Cpl. Christine Gammage. Sohm couldn’t attend the Crime Stoppers MVP Award Ceremony, while Sgt. Hughes and Cpl. Gammage missed the presentation of awards while performing other duties at the event..
Sgt. Sohm will receive his MVP medallion and a framed Crime Stoppers challenge coin, while Sgt. Hughes and Cpl. Gammage will receive the framed challenge coin. Although Sgt. Hughes and Cpl. Gammage weren’t expressly honored at the award ceremony, they have played significant roles in assisting the organization, according to organizer Marti Harrell.
Sgt. Hughes acts as the coordinator for the Iberia Crime Stoppers. She manages the tip-line and ensures they are distributed to the appropriate department and utilized in a timely manner. Gammage organizes and leads the Johnston-Hopkins Elementary School Junior Police Academy, which not only served at the award ceremony as the “pie-patrol,” but also works to change the relationship between youth and law enforcement.
“We felt it was appropriate to gather a group to honor them specially after the event,” Harrell said.
The awards will be presented by members of the Iberia Crime Stoppers board.
