NEW ORLEANS, LA – VA health care is available to provide for Veterans’ physical and mental health needs. This includes a range of services, from checkups to surgeries to home health care. It also includes prescriptions and medical equipment.
Veterans can enroll today using any of the methods below:
– In person: New Orleans VA Medical Center Eligibility Center, Bldg. H, 1st Floor, 2400 Canal Street, New Orleans, LA 70119
– On-Line: www.va.gov/health-care/apply/application/
– By mail: Mail VA Form 10-10EZ and supporting documents to Health Eligibility Center, 2957 Clairmont Rd., Suite 200, Atlanta, GA 30329
– By phone: VA toll-free hotline, 877-222-8387
In a series of recent evaluations showing the effectiveness of VA health care compared to non-VA health care, VA hospitals outperformed non-VA hospitals on all 10 core patient satisfaction metrics in the recent Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems Star Ratings, and a recent systematic review of more than 40 peer-reviewed studies found that VA health care is consistently as good as — or better than — non-VA health care.
“Whenever a Veteran entrusts us with their care, they deserve to know that they’re getting the very best,” said Fernando O. Rivera, FACHE, Medical Center Director. “That’s what we strive for, and we will never settle for anything less.”
VA staff members are available to walk Veterans through how to get started. To apply, the information listed below is required to fill out an Application for Health Benefits (VA Form 10-10EZ):
– Social Security number
– DD214 or other military separation documents
– Insurance card information
– Household income information
– Deductible expenses for the past year. These include certain health care and education costs.
If a Veteran qualifies for VA health care, they’ll receive coverage for the services they need to help them get—and stay—healthy.
If a Veteran doesn’t qualify for VA health care benefits, they can still get care for certain needs, such as PTSD and military sexual trauma. Also, just by applying, the Veteran will be enrolled in VA, meaning additional funding to help Veterans who do qualify.
Veterans are encouraged to call the general VA hotline at 1-800-827-1000, Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. to find out their care options.
