Covenant Promise: 3-4-24

Life deals us many unwanted hands. Mephibosheth was the son of Jonathan, grandson of the first king of Israel, Saul. On the day of his father and grandfather’s death, five years old, he was dropped on his head by his nurse and became a cripple for life. There was a way of escape for Mephibosheth.
A covenant is a treaty, a contract, a carefully formulated legal arrangement, respecting the union and fellowship between two parties. It can be God and man, man to man, or nation to God. Sometimes, God promises to fulfill these regardless of other factors. There are two types of covenants, Conditional and Unconditional. In this case of Mephibosheth, it was a covenant by his father, Jonathan, made with David, later to be King. Eventually, Mephibosheth was brought to Jerusalem and ate at the kings table for the rest of his life.
2 Samuel 9:7 – “So David said to him, ‘Do not fear, for I will surely show you kindness for Jonathan your father’s sake, and will restore to you all the land of Saul your grandfather; and you shall eat bread at my table continually’.” (NKJV)
