The Iberia Parish Public Library is once again partnering with Dr. Elista Istre to bring a Spanish Heritage Presentation Thursday, March 14 starting at 6 p.m.

Dr. Istre previously delivered a presentation on the heritage of Creoles in September 2023, but they aren’t the only people to have laid down roots in Louisiana. After learning that Istre offers other presentations, Erica Landreneau-Romero, community coordinator for the library, immediately asked her to deliver another presentation specifically surrounding Spanish heritage.

Having spent time studying abroad in Spain, Istre immediately said yes, and set about designing a new presentation from scratch. The presentation is set to open prior to the New Iberia Spanish Festival, and will explore the history of Spanish settlers in and around the city.

“It’s about their heritage here, so why not celebrate it,” Landreneau-Romero said.

The presentation is suitable for all ages, and will be open to the public with no registration required.
