Why Is The Teche Area Important To You:
Growing up in New Iberia has awarded me numerous opportunities. Opportunities to value what’s important, grow, and most importantly persevere. At a very early age, having a strong working-class family also assisted in my ambition. I became obsessed with thinking of ways that could allow me to be different and make a name for myself. The journey has been far from easy and I’m not where I want to be just yet. I understand the “why”; coming back to New Iberia, after I graduated from the University of Houston. I could’ve stayed in the city and flourished faster beyond my capabilities, but I’ve come to really cherish my humble beginnings.
What Do You Do For Fun:
I enjoy working out, traveling and coaching. I’m a member of the National Coalition of Minority Football Coaches (NCMFC) where I attend seminars and annual conferences. NCMFC is dedicated to preparing, promoting, and producing minority coaches at all levels of football. These activities allow me to develop my teamwork and communication skills along with connecting and challenging others around me.
Any Hobbies:
My main hobby is traveling during leisure time with my family. Exploring places we have never been and experiencing their culture. Ultimately, finding innovative and fun activities for my 5 kids to engage in is the core of my free time. The foundation that I lay down for them to discover their own interests and hobbies to build their legacy upon is vital.
Who Are Your Role Models:
I am extremely grateful that many people in this community have shaped me one way or another. However, my parents are my biggest role models. My mother instilled true toughness that with knowledge and capabilities of my own would I succeed. My father was my firm foundation never shielding me from the realities of the world. Throughout my childhood, my mom was a teacher and dad was my coach; which makes my current endeavors no surprise. I am forever appreciative for them and paying it forward to the next generation.
What Are Some Of Your Future Plans Or Goals:
My future plans involve continuing to develop my skills and gain more experience in my current field. I am always looking for new opportunities to learn and grow. God will continue making my path straight.
Proverbs 19:21 says, Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the Lord that will stand.
Is There Anything Else You Would Like To Say:
The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. Thanks for acknowledging my contributions along my journey, as it has only begun.
“Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, “What are you doing for others?” -Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
