A funeral service was conducted for Louis James Culotta Sr. at 10 a.m. on Friday, April 19, 2024, at Evangeline Funeral Home of New Iberia with Monsignor Robert Romero officiating. Interment followed at Holy Family Mausoleum.
A gathering of family and friends took place from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Thursday, April 18, 2024, at the funeral home. The funeral home reopened at 8 a.m. until the service time on Friday.
Louis James Culotta Sr., 75, of New Iberia, passed away on Sunday, April 14, 2024. Born in New Orleans, Louis was the beloved son of Marie Wagner Culotta and Sam Culotta Jr.
A man of kindness, love and industrious spirit, Louis found joy in life’s simple pleasures. Throughout his lifetime he achieved much, particularly in his dedicated work within the oil field industry. Louis’s contributions were significant, marked by the invention of several patented tools still utilized today. A graduate of New Iberia Senior High, he furthered his education, earning a bachelor’s degree from Stephen F. Austin University in Nacogdoches, Texas. Louis’s career spanned across various companies within the oil field, alongside owning and operating his own honey business, L&R Honey Co. In addition to his professional pursuits, Louis had a passion for fishing, particularly at Toledo Bend, where he found solace and joy in the serenity of the water. He was also a member of Purple Martin conservation association. His legacy will be fondly remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know and love him.
Louis is survived by his brother Sam Culotta III; his grandchildren Louis Webster and Emily Webster.
In addition to his immediate family Mr. Culotta leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins, all of whom will cherish his memory.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Rita Doucet Culotta; his father Sam Culotta Jr.; his mother Marie Wagner Culotta; and his brother Wayne Culotta.
Serving as pallbearers were Kaleb Breaux, Trey Latiolais, Micky Latiolais, Rudy Breaux II, Sam “Chip” Culotta, Justin Guillotte. Honorary pallbearers were Tommy Dunn, Jeremy Guillotte and Randall Breaux.
