Veterans Association to host Memorial Day ceremony

- The Iberia Veterans Association will be holding its annual Memorial Day celebration on May 27.
The Iberia Veterans Association will be holding a remembrance on Memorial Day, Monday, May 27, 2024.
The event will include the Iberia Jazz Band playing patriotic songs at the Steamboat Pavilion in Bouligny Plaza starting at 5 p.m., followed by a ceremony beginning at 6 p.m.
The program will include Iberia Parish President Larry Richard serving as Master of Ceremonies, special guests including Mrs. Louisiana All-Star, Kami Bernard, US Navy Veteran, several elected officials, and veterans from the area.
The program will also include Kenny Wright, Pastor of the Church of Christ, Advancement of Colors, BSA Troops 331 and 133, Cub Scouts Pack 463, Berry Queens, Daughters of the American Revolution, POW/MIA Table, and musical performances by Brenda DeKeyzer Lowry and Karla Jackson.
The event includes the laying of the memorial wreath, ringing of the liberty bell, and a Memorial Day message from select speakers.
According to the Iberia Veterans Association, Memorial Day is a day to remember, show respect for, and honor the brave men and women who lost their lives while in military service for our country.
They made the ultimate sacrifice and are missed by spouses, children, parents, extended family, friends and their comrades every day of the year. This day encourages other Americans to reflect on their sacrifices. The IVA thanks all the men and women who have served in the past and who are presently serving on active duty.
Rockstar Café food truck will have food available for purchase. Those attending are asked to consider bringing bag chairs to the event. Chairs will be provided for the event, but may run out, according to the organizers.
