NIPD provide updates on two homicides

The New Iberia Police Department provided updates in two recent shootings. 

On Sunday, May 12, 2024, just before 5:30 p.m., the New Iberia Police Department responded to a shooting in the 1300 block of Jordan Street.

Upon arrival, Officers located the victim in the street suffering from at least one gunshot wound. The 21-year-old male victim was pronounced deceased on the scene.

Detectives responded to the scene where they processed and collected evidence.

While conducting the investigations Detectives arrested 24-year-old Devin Patterson. Patterson was booked into the Iberia Parish Jail on the charges of Accessory after the Fact to Second Degree Murder, Possession of a Schedule II CDS, and Possession of a Firearm in the presence of a CDS.

Additionally, Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for 23-year-old Edward King, Jr. King is wanted for Second Degree Murder, Illegal Use of Weapons, and Possession of a Firearm in a Firearm Free Zone.

The NIPD also provided an update on the shooting that took place on Mother’s Day.

According to a NIPD press release, just before noon on Saturday, May 18, 2024, the New Iberia Police Department was notified of an individual with a gunshot wound at Iberia Medical Center.

Shortly after arriving at the hospital, Officers were notified the 43-year-old male victim had succumbed to his injuries.

Detectives responded and began their investigation.

While investigating, it was determined the incident occurred on Fontelieu Drive near the intersection of Mink Street.

Detectives were able to identify and obtain warrants for 28-year-old Trevonta Johnlouis on the charges of Second Degree Murder and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.
