LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Stop it already, Elwood!
Published 9:51 am Tuesday, June 18, 2024
It is becoming more and more apparent to me WHY we are falling further behind in our ‘Educational Goals’ in America…goals like to PRIMARILY educate our young and not indoctrinate them one way or another.
Our “teachers”, such as the likes of (I think I am sooo clever) Elwood Watson whose DAY JOB is to actually teach and NOT mold the young and vulnerable mind of his students, are surely FAILING in their jobs.
Elwood recently demonstrated how he can take an interesting OBSERVATION or two made by an well known elected and respected Congressman, a BLACK U.S. Rep. that he (Elwood) disagrees with, and use HIS (Elwood’s) own platform to project HIS (Elwood’s) own narrowly focused OPINIONS as if they are the GOSPEL TRUTH!
Actually Elwood, all you really demonstrated to the ‘thinking public’ was that someone like yourself will resort to ANY means to discredit those who dare disagree with YOUR opinions.
I, just like many who seek the truth, observed the interview where Byron Donalds stated his OPINION about how HIS (and your) race has embraced Conservatism over the years. You see, his statements were merely his ‘take’ on past events…some personally held OPINIONS that he holds and made known to us…Donalds is both Conservative and open…wow!
Donalds did NOT express (in that interview) the kind of rhetoric that Elwood assigns to him…the Rhetorical, highly-slanted, “Historically True” set of interpretations that are YOUR’S Elwood, NOT held (necessarily) by Byron.
(I happen to think) Watson is ‘projecting’ HIS hatred toward Republicans and does so thinking we do not see that.
Let’s face it everybody,,,Ain’t none of us was even alive then to witness the true feelings of those folks (1877 thru 1960) in that entire period so then EVERY conclusion is really just an OPINION!
Yet Elwood quotes his ‘EXPERTS’ and uses “factually inaccurate”, “absurd”, a “horrific stain”, “self-benefiting use of a false narrative” as starters and later adds “revisionist” and “fictionalized account” to describe Donalds opinions…WOWZA!
Methinks Watson went to writing school with the likes of Ted Rall…they employ the same tactics, but fellas…not EVERYBODY falls for it. We ain”t so dumber den Youse takens us for!!! You first state a ‘TRUISM’ and follow up with a FALSITY assigned to your ‘opponent. That DOG don’t hunt no-more.
I did NOT get that Donalds holds half of what you say he stands for. And yet you state he supports that WHITES “harass, attack or murder any(!!) Black person or rape Black women and murder Black children!!!
Folks go get the Week-end Edition and read Watson for yourself…don’t take my word for this.
Actually I did learn a lot from Watson’s piece…some true facts about a sad period of our history…he CAN actually teach us something. I also learned about Watson’s tactics as a writer who should probably just stick to his day-job.
Elwood, please do not take us as fools…we see right through you. Just like Donalds, when you go public people can hear you so watch out what you say (my free advice to you).
Perhaps it was not Ted Rall who was your classmate…was it Angela Davis another ‘teacher’ of vulnerable young minds? And speaking of MURDER, did she not provide the GUNS? (She beat the rap, but spent time in jail).
AND oh yeah Watson, thanks for the insight that America was NOT a Democracy until 1960…I hope we revise our HISTORY books because of your brilliant observation!
This is but my LETTER TO THE EDITOR on the Daily Iberian OPINION page. They have requested that YOU too submit your opinions. We must help people of all races to seek and find the ‘TRUTHS’ out there…and to hear the OPINIONS of others who are still grappling with the sometimes UGLY facts of the History of slavery in America.
Just one more observation: NICE cartoon Bill Day…did you too take a class with Elwood?…with Angela?
