LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Jeepers!

Published 12:15 pm Tuesday, July 2, 2024

Some days I don’t know if I’m blessed or cursed by being a retired person with (far) too much time on his hands. Time to read stuff.

My ‘go to’, primary, numero uno, A-1 source is ‘newsprint’…that bunch of information you get either on-line (phone, lap-top) or the ‘good old fashioned’ way that comes sometimes a little damp, sometimes water-logged, always folded, great for bird cages and puppies, but ALWAYS fun to turn the pages as you sip an Old Fashioned after a long day.

It must be because I attended some ‘Old schools’ all my life (except that modern Junior High building) that I am in all actuality an ‘old school person’ who enjoys ‘living’ in the 1960’s in the 2020’s…right up to today’ I even have a High School sweater or two that I’ll don on a cool ‘Winter’ day if I can find them.

Although my automobiles were all built in this century, one of them is considered ‘retro’ because it was designed that way…saw me coming?…and the old F150 looks ageless….cars and trucks tell us who we are?

Back to reading stuff:

You get the most up-to-date news that any publication can print and deliver due to the restrictions of the printing process or you sign in and get the latest posted electronic version…the one that might be all of 3 &1/2 minutes old.

There are all sorts of ‘instant’ news on-line with a lot of variation of content, but usually very few that include your ‘local’ items of interest. That’s the job of your local Newspaper in a nutshell.

SPARE TIME: a blessing or a curse?

I know I MUST do a lot of other stuff every day…other than read, read, read…stuff like eating, sleeping and breathing,,,

I should probably move far away from the library, the bookstore and the Newspaper office building and the stores that distribute newspapers either inside or outside, but I won’t do it.

I’ve heard the tales of the people who ‘escaped’ civilization and were never seen again, but the bears were spotted wearing overalls and hunting caps. No, I like the ‘city-life’, books, newspapers and cars…I’m staying put.

TIME is our MOST valuable asset…spend it and it’s gone…gonzo, kaput, Ain’t there no more…NO-ONE can give it back to you.

Take it from one who knows..I use MY time wisely..I READ more…It’s all I MUST do besides eat, sleep, sip my Old Fashioned or wine, breathe and try to keep safe.
